"Follow the steps and learn to hack from the best"
Very few hackers are as well-known and respected as Kevin Mitnick, and thanks to this game, appropriately titled Hack the Game, you can become his hacker apprentice of sorts. The game is free, and perhaps most importantly, doesn’t require you to do anything illegal.
In Hack the Game, you will receive instructions from your hacking mentor by email, and you will have to break into other (fictional) computers to find what he asks for: files, data, folders, etc. As a hacker apprentice, you will have access to the necessary tools to remotely connect to these other computers, such as a port scanner, a ping system, a password cracker, telnet, etc.
Just like Telnet, the interface of Hack the Game is a black screen with green letters, allowing you to get familiarized with that type of system. It’s certainly an original concept for a game and potentially useful and fun if you have always been interested in hacking. Not recommended for people with pet peeves about spelling and grammar, though. But like we said, it’s a free game that gives you the chance to experience what hackers feel, but without committing any crimes in the process.
